The school successfully runs the catering at the Colne. We provide varied food selections through our menu range, which meet the strict Government regulations for school food and drink.
These food offers include:
Main Meal £1.85 – A daily meal with a nutritionally balanced hot vegetarian or meat main course served with pasta, potatoes, rice or bread with vegetables or salad.
Meal Deal £2.30 – Turn a main meal, or a jacket potato with 2 toppings, or a pasta pot with sauce and cheese into a meal deal by adding a homemade cookie or a piece of fruit for £2.30.
Hot Grab and Go – A hot snack service for students who do not wish to sit down. These items range from: pizzas, jacket potatoes, burgers, hot dogs, paninis and much more.
Bakery – A range of home baked items including muffins, brownies, flapjacks, pretzels and cookies. We try to reduce the sugar content in many of these products but sweeten them naturally with the addition of sweet potato, carrot, courgette, beetroot or added fruit. We also offer a range of pastries.
Cold Selection of Food – A selection of sandwiches, wraps and rolls with a choice of fillings. Halal & gluten free selections are also on offer. A fine selection of freshly made baguettes, salad pots, hummus, cheese & biscuits, cheesecake, jelly, chilled milk, juices, yoghurts, mineral water and bottled fruit based drinks are available.
Our aim is to provide all students with a well-balanced, healthy, tasty and nutritional meal whilst enjoying a complete dining experience where they can sit down with a plate, knife and fork in the newly renovated Refectory.
To help us achieve this we have changed our production methods with the removal of salt from the cooking process, reduced the level of saturated fat and sugar; a greater use of healthy cooking methods such as baking; steaming or grilling; and the removal of artificial colourings and flavourings.
Fresh fruit and salad bowls are a popular option for students with produce often supplied from local suppliers, such as Ardleigh and Lawford, who guarantee freshness. The school works closely with all of its suppliers to provide good quality products at competitive prices.
We are happy to adapt the food items we sell for those students who have dietary requirements whenever possible. Allergen information can be found on all of our products and advertised menus. Due to our methods of food production, we cannot guarantee a totally ‘free-from’ environment. Should you have any specific allergen or food sensitivity concerns, please contact the Catering Manager who will advise. All catering staff can also give advice on request.
As required by the EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation, along with pre-packaged and wrapped items also displaying ingredients to comply with the newly introduced Natasha’s Law.
We have introduced a range of ‘disposable’ ware with a range of compostable alternatives which are made from corn starch or sugarcane.
Should you wish to discuss any catering matter or require further information on what is on offer in the refectory please contact the school and ask for Lisa Netzel, our Catering Manager, or email [email protected]
