Waves Refectory

Due to the current situation we are all experiencing and the measures we have had to put into place to keep everyone in our school community safe, we are only able to provide a  limited food offer from our refectory. We try to vary the daily menus which include a selection of the items you can find here, along with a daily meal deal for £2.30 at lunch time. All the prices remain the same.
Thank you for your understanding

The school successfully runs the catering at the Colne. We provide varied food selections through our  Waves  menu range which all meet the strict Government regulations for school food and drink.

These food offers include:

DISH OF THE DAY–A daily meal deal influenced by different countries from ‘Around the World’. A nutritionally balanced hot vegetarian or meat main course served with pasta, potatoes, rice or bread with vegetables or salad and a traditional hot pudding, fruit salad or yoghurt plus a bottle of mineral water for an all-inclusive price of £2.30 student (Free School Meal value).  A great deal!

HOT DELI – A hot snack service. Italian style pizzas freshly cooked, Pasta Bar that serves tasty pasta with a daily choice of freshly made tomato based meat and vegetarian sauces, toasties, paninis and jacket potatoes with choice of hot and cold fillings, hot tortilla wraps, baguettes and bagels. Good for that high carb intake!

BAKERY BITES – A range of home baked muffins, brownies, flapjack, pretzel rolls and cinnamon bagels. These products may have reduced sugar but are sweetened naturally with the addition of sweet potato, carrot & beetroot or added fruit.

Tasty sweet treats!

COLD DELI– A fine selection of freshly made sandwiches, baguettes, wraps and rolls all with a choice of fillings. Halal & gluten free selections are also on offer. A choice of salad pots, sushi, houmous, chilled milk, juices, yoghurts, mineral water and bottled fruit based drinks are available. Cool choice!

Our aim is to provide the students with a well balanced, healthy, tasty and nutritional food service. To help us to achieve this we have changed our production methods with the removal of salt from the cooking process, reduced the level of saturated fat and sugar; a greater use of healthy cooking methods such as baking; steaming or grilling; and the removal of artificial colourings and flavourings.

Our fresh meat is supplied by a local farmer and butcher who have full traceability on all their products. Fresh fruit and salad pots are a popular option for students with produce being supplied from local suppliers, such as Ardleigh and Lawford, who guarantee freshness. The school works closely with all of its suppliers to provide good quality products at competitive prices, so much so, we have only applied minimal price increases over the last few years!

Our counter menus indicate any allergens contained in our products as required by the EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation. Our catering staff can also give advice on request.

We have joined in the fight against plastic pollution by replacing many of our ‘disposable’ ware with a range of compostable or biodegradable alternatives which are made from corn starch or sugarcane for example. We continue to work with our suppliers to further reduce the use of plastics.

Should you wish to discuss any catering matter or require further information on what is on offer in the refectory please contact the school and ask for Lyn Carey-Smith, our Catering Manager, or email [email protected]
