Year 7

Pupils learn a wide range of skills developing Composition, Performance and Practical music making. Pupils do this through-

 

Graphic Scores– Pupils learn how to read and create Graphic scores, this is their first performance within music. They learn performance skills, classroom rules and Musical Elements.

Elements of Music through Christmas Songs– Pupils learn how to decode musical notation through Christmas songs. They also learn how to play and perform them.

Folk Music– Pupils continue to develop their musical notation skills by decoding Down By The Sally Gardens, they also start to build ensemble skills, once learnt on a keyboard they add vocals and drums.

Independent learning– Pupils learn classic melodies on the keyboard whilst taking a different approach. Pupils are responsible for choosing a song, finding the notes on a keyboard, playing and performing as part of an ensemble.

Price Tag– Pupils combine the skills they have learnt over the year, learning new chords, adding melody, voice and percussion.

 

Year 8

Reggae– Pupils learn how to play ‘3 Little Birds’ on the keyboards, they learn what makes Reggae music Reggae and how to identify Reggae through listening.

Independent learning– Pupils learn classic melodies on the keyboard whilst taking a different approach. Pupils are responsible for choosing a song, finding the notes on a keyboard, playing and performing as part of an ensemble.

African Drumming– Pupils learn how drums are made, how to play and care for them. Pupils learn about musical structure and continue their development of musical elements.

Film Music– Pupils start to explore music technology. Pupils put their own composition to a film clip. Learning how to use the software to apply all their musical knowledge.

Lean on Me– Pupils put all their musical knowledge together to make a ensemble performance of Lean on Me.
