Year 7 Computing

Term 1 Using computers and Online Safety Students will be introduced to the school computer system and taught how to use it. They will investigate the use of technology, the potential threats of using it and how to protect themselves and their data.
Term 2 Kodu Game Maker Students will be introduced to the idea of game design and programming. Students will start using programming constructs to control characters and elements within a game.
Term 3 Computing Principles Students will start developing their understanding of how a computer works. Students will study how data is turned into information and stored using binary.
Term 4 Programming with Scratch Students will use Scratch to develop their programming skills. This time students will be using block coding to develop their understanding of sequencing.
Term 5 Small Basic Students will be introduced to the world of text based programming where they will make small programs reflecting real life scenarios.
Term 6 App Development and Design Students will plan, design and develop an app on a topic of their choice.

 

Year 8 Computing

Term 1 Python Programming Students will develop their knowledge of text based programming from year 7 by using a professional piece of software to develop their own real life programs.
Term 2 Spreadsheet Modelling Students will use spreadsheets to create budgets and data analysis. They will used spreadsheet modelling to manipulate data and find interesting ways of visualising data.
Term 3 Programming with Scratch Students will use Scratch to develop their programming skills. This time students will be using block coding to develop their understanding of sequencing.
Term 4 Computing Principles Students will continue developing their understanding of how a computer works. Students will study how data is turned into information and stored using binary.
Term 5 Graphic Design Students will use graphic manipulation software to design, create and edit their own graphics for a given business.
Term 6 Computer Crime Students will gain an understanding of the different threats that are posed to computer networks on a daily basis. They will learn about the impacts of computer crime and how businesses and individuals protect themselves against it.
